As you may have heard of, a Council of Ministers of OHADA took place on May 11,12 2006 in Bamako. Aware of the historic success of OHADA and of the great expectations aroused by the new OHADA common system of business laws within the international business and legal communities, the OHADA Ministers reiterated their will to revise the OHADA treaty and to turn progressively OHADA into a truly multilingual unified system of business laws opening up progressively to Anglophone, Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries. In that perspective, the Ministers called for a Summit of the OHADA Heads of States and Governments whose purpose would be the signing of a revised OHADA treaty, laying the groundwork for a multilingual system of business laws. The Ministers had already agreed on a draft revised treaty on the occasion of their previous meeting in Malabo in March, 2005 and they confirmed in Bamako their common position on this critical issue for the future of OHADA. The Ministers did also confirm their will to finalize the OHADA Uniform Act pertaining to labor law, under the impulse of the OHADA National Commissions, within the framework of a very broad dialogue with trade unions and employers' confederations and with the support of the International Labor Organization (ILO). The Ministers did also congratulate themselves on the success of the new autonomous financing system for the OHADA institutions they had designed and put in place on the occasion of their previous councils. Your www.ohada.com website and the African Association for a Unified System of Business Laws (UNIDA) presided by Mr. Kéba MBAYE are extremely satisfied of the success of the Bamako OHADA Council. They express the wish that the OHADA Summit of Heads of States and Governments will take place as soon as possible for the signing of the revised OHADA treaty which will pave the way for the opening up of the OHADA common system of business laws to many more countries and for the common good.
