In September 2026, Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, will host a major international conference dedicated to OHADAOHADA Uniform Business Law — a landmark event promoting African integration, legal certainty, investment, and sustainable development.

Organized in partnership with the Government of the Central African Republic and the OHADA Organization, with the support of UNIDA (Association for the Unification of Law in Africa), publisher of www.ohada.com, the conference will pay tribute to Barthélémy Boganda, Founding Father of the Central African Republic and one of the earliest visionaries of African unity.

Boganda believed that Africa's future depended on the unity of its peoples and economies. More than six decades later, that vision finds a concrete expression in OHADA, whose Uniform Acts provide a common legal framework for business across 17 African States. By strengthening legal certainty, facilitating cross-border trade, attracting investment and fostering economic integration, OHADA has become one of Africa's greatest institutional achievements.

By choosing Bangui as the host city, this conference reaffirms that legal integration is the foundation of economic integration. It will bring together policymakers, judges, lawyers, academics, business leaders, entrepreneurs and representatives of international institutions to explore how law can continue to drive Africa's economic transformation, particularly in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Beyond Africa, OHADA is increasingly recognised as one of the world's most successful examples of regional legal integration. Its experience is inspiring legal innovation far beyond the African continent, including current European discussions surrounding the proposed “EU Inc.” initiative and the European Commission's “28th Regime”, both of which seek to provide businesses with a single optional legal framework across the European Union. Africa is therefore not only benefiting from legal harmonisation — it is also helping shape the future of transnational business law.
