OHADAC drafting projects beginning soon following Panamanian meetings

The various meetings of Panama allowed us to reach a simple conclusion, “the OHADAC is on track, is a known and respected project throughout the Caribbean, give it a concrete shape now." Taking advantage of the ACP Legal Panama Chapter incorporation, -the association promoting the OHADAC in the isthmus-, the various experts gathered in Panama City, led by Professors Rodolfo Dávalos from Cuba and Gilberto Boutin from Panama, have defined two priorities:

• Implementation as soon as possible of the OHADAC Court of International Commercial Arbitration. As such, the Conference of Professor Dávalos to the Panamanian legal community gathered in the Santa Maria Catholic University on October 18th and at the Panamanian bar on October 19th (see attached Conference in Spanish), precisely defines its contours: creating rules based on the UNCITRAL Model Law and the latest advances in terms of arbitration, operating through the network of Caribbean Chambers of Commerce, -as both promoters and guarantors -, building quick, inexpensive, impartial mechanisms, offering the required guarantees to the parties.
• Launching a comprehensive census of the existing trade law and international conventions in all Caribbean countries, as an essential database for experts to work on concrete projects of harmonization. This work will be done thanks Academia networking. The Universities of Havana and Panama are already available, and the Union of Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean too, following our meeting with the University of Panama Rector and President of this Union , Dr. Gustavo García de Paredes.
