Second International Conference on Regional Integration and the Harmonization of SADC Law, Maputo, 9th-11th November 2010

The Faculty of Law of Edouardo Mondlane University (UEM), through the Centre of Studies on Regional Integration and SADC Law (CEDIR) inform you that in April 2008, the Faculty of Law organized the First International Conference on Regional Integration and SADC, which focused on a robust debate and made a diagnostic of the state of implementation of SADC regional integration agenda and protocols. It also focused on an analysis of the benefits of regional integration for Member States. During the Forum organized in May 2009, it was decided that the Second International Conference would be convened in 2010 on the theme "Strategies for Mainstreaming Regional Integration through the Harmonization and Modernization of Economic and Business Laws in Southern Africa". The overall objective of the conference is to contribute, through a critical review and analysis, to a deeper and faster integration process, in term of ratification and domestication of Protocols, by fostering and promoting a robust debate and concrete proposals on strategies for mainstreaming regional integration and the adoption of harmonized legal and regulatory frameworks at national level in Member States, identify ans construct a critical assessment of obstacles ans challenge affecting the adoption of mechanisms for the fast tracking of legal initiatives at national level with a view to sustain existing efforts for mainstreaming regional integration agenda an finally, to develop proposals of model laws which could be used for the implementation, follow up and assessment of the SADC regional integration agenda, with a priority focus on the Economic an Business sector. It is in this context that a "Regional Technical Workshop" was organized in Maputo from 16 to 18 August 2010 in order to facilitate the review of conference papers The Second International Conference is confirmed to take place in Maputo from 9th to 11th November 2010. During the closing ceremony of the conference, its planning to launch, in cooperation with the French Embassy in Maputo, the latest edition of the OHADA Law manual in Portuguese.
