OHADA expert committee holds meeting in Yaounde

ohada.orgA meeting of the Committee of Experts of the Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (OHADA), opened on Monday in the Cameroonian capital, Yaoundé to prepare the 36th meeting of the organization's Council of ministers.The experts will also examine the activity report, review the conditions for the selection of Judges to the Common Court of Justice and Arbitration, review the living conditions in the member states, and consider the harmonization program and the staff regulations.

Concerning the selection of judges, OHADA's Permanent Secretary, Dorothé Cossi Sossa, told APA that the member states leaders had firmly instructed its department to use a legal text to regulate their selection in October 2013 in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).

As regard the staff regulations, he noted the obsolete status saying: “we must look at what is being done by similar organizations and upgrade focusing first on the quality of recruitment so that OHADA can capture the interest of the best recruits among the citizens of our country”.

At the opening session which involved delegates from 17 member countries, the Chairman of OHADA Council of Ministers, Jean-Pierre Fogui, called his interlocutors to avoid “dangers” like “the heaviness of nationalism and the temptation of personal commitment”.

The member states of OHADA, which headquartered in Yaoundé, are: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Comoros, Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mali, Niger, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Chad and Togo.
